'Rock of Ages' and 'That's My Boy ' fall flat on its opening day in theaters

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted and Prometheus do not need to step back from the newcomers Rock of Ages and That's My Boy. That's because both of these new movies proved themselves not strong enough to compete with Madagascar 3 and Prometheus on their first day in theaters.

The musical Rock of Ages and R-rated comedy That's My Boy were a big disappointment at the box office this Friday. Rock of Ages earned an estimated $5.3 million from 3,470 locations while That’s My Boy took in just $4.6 million from 3,030 theaters. Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted and Prometheus kept their box office position firmly by earning a solid $10 million and $5.8 million respectively.

Rock of Ages is at number 3 and That's My Boy is at 4 in the box office charts. The fairytale flick Snow White and the Huntsman slipped down one position and is at number 5 now with estimated $4 million earning on Friday. It is sure that Madagascar 3 will continue to hold the top spot on the weekend chart for a second week in a row.

Rock of Ages stars Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand as That's My Boy stars Adam Sandler in the leading role. Tom Cruise and Adam Sandler were most bankable stars in recent movie history, but now with disappointing opening of their movies it seems that they are losing their fans and star powers.

Rock of Ages is now expected to only gross $14 million to $16 million for the weekend, and That's My Boy is expected to earn around $12 million to $13 million for the weekend.
