Madagascar 3 tops 80s hairdos

From Friday's gross it was sure that Madagascar 3 will easily top the weekend box office, and it did. Madagascar 3 earned an outstanding $35.5 million to be the number one movie in America again in it's second weekend. The 10 days total gross of the movie has now reached $120.4 million, which keeps it ahead of its two predecessors.



Prometheus earned $20 million taking the second spot again in its second weekend. Through 10 days, the Alien prequel has earned $88.9 million making it the highest-grossing movie ever in the Alien franchise.

The newcomer Tom Cruise starring Rock of Ages took third place with an estimated $15.06 million from 3,470 locations. The musical flick didn't even come close to past Summer musicals Mamma Mia! ($27.8 million) and Hairspray ($27.5 million).

Another new entry in the box office chart was Adam Sandler's That's My Boy which debuted with a terrible $13 million from 3,030 locations. By far this was the worst movie debut for Sandler.

The classic fairy tale, Snow White and the Huntsman, earned $13.8 million and took fourth place just ahead of That's My Boy.

Men In Black 3 and Marvel's Avengers lost few of its theaters to newcomers. Both movies are in sixth and seventh position this weekend. The Avengers domestic gross till date is now $586.7 million, and there is chance this movie could reach $600 million milestone by the end of next weekend.
